It is important for engineers to have the ability to convey their messages to a variety of audiences. These audiences vary significantly from company to company. For example, Craig Connell describes his experiences communicating with clients at Black and Veatch, while Cynthia Lord reflects on her experiences translating technical engineering jargon to regulators at Alliant Energy. In fact, the audience should be the first item one considers when communicating. Improperly identifying an audience can lead to massive legal, as well as monetary, repurcussions.
